For many academics the summer holidays are upon us. That doesn't mean that all the work is finished but most find time for a break with family, friends or solo missions. In the words of that great imagineer Roald Dahl ... "The summer holidays! The magic words! The mere mention of them used to send shivers of joy rippling over my skin".

If you do plan travels this summer why not blog about your adventures. Services are popping up all over the place to provide opportunities to document your travel story words, images, audio or video.  Read about the emerging phenomena here or here.

You can get started by using a free online service many of which come with perks like collecting donations to pay for trips, have your travelogue bound into a book or sold online, access tips and forums, and plot an itinerary on a map. But the main goal is of course just to share your experiences with others and access the myriad of multiple subjectivities that can be found in traveller lives.

Academics are spoilt for choice with service options including travelpod.com, travelblog.org, mytripjournal.com, travelblogs.com, podomatic.com and of course the traditional blogging sites like blogger.com, livejournal.com, myspace.com and tripod.com.
